In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Doris Egan is God's gift to House fans. Any script she gets her hands on, no matter how much or how little she actually contributes (I bet it's ALWAYS a lot), the episodes that arise from them never fail to make me flail/squee/think. Like it or not, she's most definitely earned the fan-assigned title of 'St. Doris'.
Now that that's out of the way, I can begin to analyse Known Unknowns.
Over all this episode was a hit. I laughed, I cringed, I got a little choked up. In my opinion, it was a throwback to House episodes of yore, when House was playful, introspective, disrespectful (with a point) and ultimately analytical and observing, all in one action-packed hour. We continued our examination into his attempts at change, at looking at things from other directions, something I've been starting to look forward to. Plus, we got a long-awaited glimpse into his (and Cuddy's) past, which can help fill in the gaps of why be is the way he is. More on that later.
Not much Foreman in this episode, which suited me just fine. With the whole foray into leadership for the good neurologist in the past weeks, and the Foreteen side show, I was getting a little sick of him, to tell you the truth. Don't get me wrong, I still like Foreman. It's just that I don't like having one particular character shoved in my face week after week, unless it's House, of course.
Doris and Matt managed to continue on with the Dibala Debacle without making it the epicentre of the hour. If you've read my metas for the rest of the season, you've probably noticed my disdain for the whole story arc, and that, unfortunately, hasn't changed. I'm glad Chase finally came clean to his wife, even though I know that it will ultimately lead to Cameron's leaving, but I still don't really care about it. At least Chase wasn't too weepy.
I haven't voyaged into the comms yet, but I bet both
I absolutely LOVED the interaction between House and Cuddy in that scene, and I found it completely plausible. Funny thing is, I wrote a story called Never Miss A Trick in which they met in college and had their first date at a Halloween party while dressed in costumes. Hee hee. That scene was like watching a dream I'd already had! I thought it was touching, the conversation, and my heart tore out of my chest when Cuddy ran away. No wonder House didn't want to put himself out there, out of fear of something like that happening! I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT.
Wilson and the Euthanasia Paper felt like it was thrown in for no reason. I guess it helped develop his relationship with House a bit more but, all in all, it didn't really fit into the episode. I got a kick out of House drugging Wilson yet again, though. Who doesn't love a couple of House antics thrown in for good measure? And any scene between Robert Sean Leonard and Hugh Laurie is okay in my books.
Cuddy + Lucas = LAMEST COUPLE EVER. I still LOVE Lucas, but I can't help but feel like it's Cuddy settling for something she thinks she wants, when what she really wants is House despite his 'unreliability'. And the fact that she told Lucas about House's hallucination proves that fact to me. What motives did she have for confessing that to him? Was she trying to convince Lucas that House wasn't a good candidate for a partner, or was she trying to convince herself? And I know Lucas is completely socially awkward, but how dare he bring up something Cuddy told him in confidence in conversation? BAH! He just pissed me off. I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about this.
So, yeah. Liked the episode a lot, can't wait to see where they go with it all next week.

Jeff, an ex-lawyer who's in community college, tries to convince Troy, an African American ex-high school quarterback, to join the shitty college football team:
Jeff: I'm saying you're a football player! It's in your blood!
Troy: That's racist.
Jeff: Your soul!
Troy: That's racist.
Jeff: Your eyes?
Troy: That's gay?
Jeff: That's homophobic.
Troy: That's black.
Jeff: That's racist!
Troy: Damn.
OMG, check out Community. Seriously, great new show. <3

Here are the songs from Glee episodes 6 and 7.
Halo / Walking on Sunshine - The Girls' mash up - The yellow dresses were presh. Since Walking on Sunshine is one of my favourite songs of ALL TIME, I was super happy to hear this one!
It's My Life / Confessions, Pt. II - The Boys' mash up - Finn's smile while hyped up on cold medicine was deranged. I liked it.
Hate On Me - Sue's Kids - Mercedes' hair pisses me off.
No Air - Will's Kids - So many Rachel/Finn duets, but I still like it.
Keep Holding On - Cast - This song was SO FAMILIAR, and I knew the words to the chorus, but I couldn't for the life of me figure out who sang it. Google told me Avril Lavigne, and then I felt ashamed for knowing it so well. Oh well.
You Keep Me Hangin' On - Quinn - This is one of my FAVE Supremes songs. INTENSE LOVE.
According to iTunes, some upcoming Glee songs include Bust a Move (I can only see this being hilarious), Sweet Caroline (NEIL DIAMOND FTW!), and Dancing With Myself.

I'm disturbed by how indifferent I am to House right now. I don't love it, I don't hate it. I'm sitting comfortably in the middle, which is a strange place to be, like some crazy TV purgatory. Does this mean I'm losing interest? GOD, I hope not! I'm still hot for Hugh, still love the House/Wilson 'I was picking lint out of my bellybutton' dynamic, and the hate/foreplay genius that is House/Cuddy, but something's...off, and I can't quite put my finger on it.
"Brave Heart". Now, I enjoyed watching this episode. It had a lot of stuff going on. The POTW was mildly interesting, despite his douchy kinda vibe, especially when coming back from the dead during his autopsy (that was a cast saw they used to cut open his chest. Just sayin') to the screams of House and Foreman. I knew it was coming (dang previews), but it was still glorious to see House almost shit himself like he made Taub and Kutner do last season.
Wilson can be kind of a dick, right? I mean, the chick from the episode "Frozen" hit the nail on the head when she said that Wilson was "secretly not as nice as he'd like us to think". Even in the midst of House's attempted transformation, he jerks House around and accuses him of being backhanded. Granted, House WAS being a little backhanded (with the whole "I'm checking myself back into Mayfield" bit), but really. Wilson was willing to let House go back to the psych ward rather than admit that he had been talking to his dead girlfriend? Rude. That's taking it too far.
Which is where I'm thinking this arc with Chase is going. Too far into something that I, to tell you the truth, don't really care about. I guess it's an interesting plot line, delving into how somebody can morally treat somebody who's been far less than moral in their day-to-day lives, but I kind of miss Chase as the light-hearted, sometimes arrogant, all the time adorable, floppy-haired Australian. Sure, not everybody can be so perky all the time, but the show is losing a bit of it's...fun-ness. Does that make sense? I don't know. It reminds me a bit of the Vogler/Tritter arcs, except that both of those times the foil was House, which was probably why I cared more then I do now.
I think the thing that's keeping me hooked, despite my reservations, is me wondering how they're going to handle a) Cameron finding out b) anybody else finding out and c) whether or not Chase faces any more consequences than the emotional inner turmoil he's going through right now. I actually loved the fact that Chase fell back on the familiar and went to confession, even though he's shown little or no connection to the church since we were all learning about the character in season one. The priest voiced my feelings exactly: "Who are you to decide who lives or dies?" Chase may not have gotten the answer he wanted to hear, but he needed to hear the message anyway. I know he still has a ways to go before he hits bottom (getting drunk is only the answer sometimes, Chase!), and I'm sort of looking forward to how low he will go.
The fluffiness thrown in with House and Cuddy was fun, especially with all the non-fluffiness that is Chase and Cameron right now. So was the intern's observation ("That's not hate; it's foreplay."). I'm really liking these two together more and more, like House's stint in Mayfield changed the way he thought of Cuddy and how they'd interact when he got out. His little confession ("You do make me feel funny.") had me all melty inside. And I bet Cuddy was all melty, too. He has the ability to say exactly the right thing at exactly the right moment to make me swoon (yay writers!).
So, yeah. Decent episode. If nothing else, it got me imagining House masturbating, so that's something.

I did a small friends cut of people who a) never post or b) never comment. I'm keeping the people I enjoy reading, even though I hardly comment. I'm bad that way. If you think I removed you by accident, my apologies! I'm super tired and people's names blurred on my Manage Friends list. Comment here and I'll either give you a reason why I removed you or add you back, apologizing profusely. If you're still on the list and want off, then I guess you can just remove me as a friend. That's on you.
For those of you still on my list/want to be on my list, answer this poll! If you don't, then I'll just assume you want an all access pass and nothing will happen.

I know it's the start of an arc, I know it was Ducklings 1.0, and I know it was James Earl Jones (who couldn't NOT be epic even if he tried), but there was something about The Tyrant that made me keep zoning out throughout the east coast AND west coast feeds. I caught more on the second viewing, I guess, but I think I'd have to sit down and force myself to pay really close attention to really determine how I felt about it. Here's the way I see it now, although a third viewing and reading your metas will probably help me round out the episode nicely.
A) The "Tyrant", Dibala. I went back and forth with this one. I was really excited about James Earl Jones, and I think he gave us an Emmy-worthy performance as an evil dictator, but I think I was too disappointed by the fact that he had NO SCENES WITH HUGH LAURIE. Sure, Cuddy gave us a reason (no medical license = no patient contact), but how can you not put these two in a freaking room together? Maybe they're keeping House out of the drama so that he can't be implicated with all the shit that inevitably goes down, idk. Whatever.
I think they (the writers) made us realize that we can't judge a book by it's propaganda-filled cover and that to truly understand somebody's motives we can't jump to conclusions. We can only come to a fair conclusion when we've learned as much as possible about a situation, which brings me to...
B) Chase. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I think he went back and forth along with the audience when it came to Dibala (I guess it was really us who went along with Chase, but my point still stands). There were points in the episode, that first meeting when Dibala was attempting to place his accent, for example, where I felt that Chase kind of liked the guy, or at least could give him the benefit of the doubt (unlike Cameron, who I'll get to later). I can only imagine how difficult it would be to find yourself in the position of having to treat a man who had killed thousands with no consequences. Mark was all, like, "YES, CHASE! WAY TO GO!", but I'm not so sure I agree, even aside from the fact that a character I love could go down in flames. I guess maybe I felt like it wasn't his responsibility to take matters into his own hands. Maybe HE felt like he morally couldn't allow him to live, but if everybody acted the way Chase did then the world would end in the chaos of vigilante justice. Other channels (granted, possibly less effective ones) could have been utilized. But, then again, that wouldn't have made for very compelling television.
I'm starting to think that I'm thinking about this too much. LOL!
C) Cameron, who just pissed me the hell off the WHOLE EPISODE with her whining. Yes, he's a dictator. Yes, he's done horrible things and could possibly do more horrible things in the future if you were to do your job and diagnose him. But seriously, could you mention how much you hate him more next time, please? She does know that she can stop treating him and remove herself from the case at any time, right?
Okay, I know she was put there so that that particular view point could be heard throughout the episode by Chase, and that they could hammer home the fact that, no matter who he is or what he'd done, she would never do anything to deliberately harm him (i.e. not injecting him with the air bubble). But the self-righteousness just got so old by the end of the episode, almost like being back on the team made her revert to the Cameron of season one. I thought she'd grown up a little bit since then. I hope they don't keep up with this trend. I was liking the new Cameron quite a bit.
D) Foreman and Thirteen. I'm caring less and less about their relationship and how working together could affect it. I still like them both and the dynamic they bring to the team, though, which confuses the hell out of me because their dynamic is directly dictated by their personal relationship. I think that the way Thirteen acted while at dinner, when she told Foreman that he could have asked Chase or Cameron to take the department instead so that she could have kept her job, was totally uncalled for, as was her walking out. It just seemed like too much forced drama.
E) House and the Vet. This was the only part of the episode I cared about, really. I liked seeing him try to be nice and consciously attempting to not be too much of an ass, even if it took being a bit of an ass to get to the kindness. The hockey reference, no doubt slipped in there by David Shore, was gold, but I couldn't help but yell, "BOOO, MAPLE LEAFS!" when House mentioned Toronto's NHL team. I also enjoyed seeing House enjoying himself again in a ddx. The miming of the differential was like being back in season two again, and it warmed my heart to see Chase back in his old role as House's foil.
Overall, I'd give the episode a seven, knowing that it was mostly a set up for the arc that will follow in the coming weeks. I'm also starting to realize that my favourite writers are my favourite for a reason.

Thanks to everybody who commented on my last post. It's nice to know there are still some people who would read my shit if I posted it! I thought I'd make a new post in response, instead of saying the same thing to everybody in the last post!
Now, the reason I was thinking about participating in
house_bigbang is that, yesterday, I got a comment on a story called Bean There (House/Original Character with House/Wilson friendship) that I had started posting at ff.net. They said that it was their favourite story on the site and that they really hope I decide to continue, even though it's been over two years since I started posting it. It made me feel pretty good, because I really did like this story, and if I wasn't so hard on my writing I could probably finish it.
I'm not completely sure of the rules of
house_bigbang . I don't know if I'm allowed to use a story that I've already partly posted somewhere else. If yes, then sweet. I've got almost 23,000 words of that story written already so finishing it will hopefully be a snap. If not, then I have the sequel to Never Miss A Trick (House/Original Character) started, and I could probably make that into an awesome House/Cuddy masterpiece. Hey, maybe I'll do both.
What do you think? Which would you rather read?

Tonight's episode of House can be summarized in a few simple words: HOUSE/WILSON BONERFEST. I thank God every day for Sara Hess and her superior House/Wilson writing abilities. My favourite episode is still "Spin", which is one of hers, and I always look forward to seeing what she'll come up with next. I also have to give a shout out to director Greg Yaitanes for all the delicious character close ups! HELLO, ICONS!
Aside from the 'shippiness, which I'm sure everybody is talking about/has already talked about to death, I'd say "Epic Fail" was one of the better episodes I've seen. The POTW was annoying as hell, but I guess that was the point. The internet can be an amazing tool and a complete hindrance at the same time, and I can't imagine how a doctor would handle that in real life. I actually enjoyed Foreman strong-arming Vince, because, seriously, that dude needed to be smacked.
While I don't really care about Thirteen and Foreman's relationship, I didn't mind this foray into their domestic life and how it relates to their careers. The whole scene with them lying on the bed (I also thank God for Omar Epps' bare torso) was sweet, despite Foreman's parachute pants, and the mention of the little tryst I had with Thirteen back in college was a trip down memory lane. "Her name was Lindsay and she was a cheerleader from Iowa..." ;)
It was great to see Dr. Nolan again, played fabulously by Andre Braugher. I love sitting in on House's therapy, mainly because we get to see that he is actually open to what Nolan is telling him, no matter how skeptical he may be about it. And then we get to watch as House puts the things he learns into practice, which shows to me that he can change and still be the House that we have loved since the very beginning. There's a fine line, though, that the writers have to be wary of during all this change. I don't know what the line is, but I can tell you this: the fans will know if and when it has been crossed and will cry fowl. Change is good, until it goes too far.
A few stand out moments for me:
Foreman entering House's office and feeling up his chair, before uncovering the infamous tennis ball and playing with it. Am I the only one who wanted to punch him in the jeans during that scene? It felt like a crazy violation, like the office and the ball were an extension of House himself, and by messing with it Foreman was messing with the very balance of the universe. Having Cameron walk in and verbally punch him in the jeans for me was very fulfilling for my psyche.
Taub and Thirteen playing the video game and running a DDX at the same time, while also discussing her personal life. And then, of course, Taub rolling around on the ground while being attacked by fictional birds.
All of the scenes with House and Wilson: taking the cooking class ("Wilson's balls are smoking"), House spoon feeding Wilson in the early morning hours, House folding Wilson's laundry. I fear this is as close to a House/Wilson romantic relationship we'll get, and you know what? I'll take it. Although, I swear to God that, when Nolan asked House what Wilson likes to do, I said, "Wilson likes to suck cock," out loud, completely forgetting that Mark was sitting right next to me. WIN!
Something small that really caught my eye was at the end of the scene with House and Thirteen in Wilson's apartment when, at the end of the conversation, House said, "But my leg still hurts." Before Mayfield, House would never have said something like that to one of his team members, at least not with the sincerity in which he said it to Thirteen. It shows that he's learning to connect with people on a more personal level.
I love that Chase cut his hair, I love that Cuddy let hers grow (HOT), and I'm actually warming to House's buzz cut.
House solving his team's case over the internet was brilliant, but the only thing I could say when Nolan suggested that diagnostic medicine could make House happy was, "DUH!" I could have told you that, Nolan. In fact, I'm surprised that House didn't figure that one out for himself. Maybe the reason he's become so reliant on Nolan when it comes to his mental health is that he's finally realized that his mind is one thing he doesn't know how to fix on his own. And I like seeing his vulnerability. I really hope Nolan sticks around for a while, if only to give Wilson a break. Hey, maybe having that burden relieved will give us some more genuine friendship moments that we can squee about!
Phew! Now I can go read your metas!
